Peer Supervisor

he program has integrated with the Onondaga County Health Department’s Mental Health and Substance Use Initiatives and the functions of the peer role have expanded. The Peer Supervisor will develop and monitor policy and procedure of the program, and engages in a broad range of service planning, Supervise staff, and oversee all program functions.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Engage with providers of mental health, substance use, and developmental disability service providers throughout Onondaga County.
  • Facilitate meetings with service providers (peer and non-peer).
  • Promote the role of peer services throughout the service system.
  • Support peer training efforts.
  • Assist in service planning with the provider system for individuals with unmet needs.
  • Supervise and manage staff.
  • Address personnel and staff development across multiple sites.
  • Conduct and participate actively in weekly or bi-weekly supervision, team case conferences, staff meetings, professional and in-service training sessions and mandatory agency events.
  • Train and orient new staff to their positions and provide regular performance evaluations to ensure high quality service.
  • Monitor and review documentation.
  • Manage cultural diversity effectively to ensure that the unique strengths of all staff are maximized, communication within the program is open, and services are delivered in a culturally competent manner.
  • Participate in the coordination of program development; consult with Program supervisor to set, achieve, and evaluate program objectives and goals.
  • Knows and carries out agency policies and procedures.
  • Complete all necessary written reports, statistics, and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.
  • Handle emergency situations which may require flexibility of time and area of assignment; including providing after hour coverage as needed.
  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and related tasks as assigned.

  • High level of initiative, effort and commitment to completing assignments efficiently.
  • Group and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Capacity to receive supervision and mentoring.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma and some college or related experience, or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate certification
  • Five years of experience working in or with human services, including peer services involvement, or other related experience.
  • Personal and/or family lived experience in substance use recovery.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid NYS Class D Driver License and reliable transportation to meet job requirements.
