Peer Respite Worker: Part-time opportunities $26/hour

Mental Health Field

Position Summary

Reports to the Program Director of the Crisis Respite Center (CRC) and will provide services directly to the CRC guests. Completes the Intentional Peer Support (IPS), Need Adapted Treatment Model (NATM) and will practice according to the principles of recovery-oriented and trauma informed service delivery, including IPS, NATM and PHN.

Essential Functions

  • Provide community outreach as needed.
  • Facilitate guest participation in hobby, social and recreational activities of their choice.
  • Linkage with community supports, health and mental health providers.
  • Peer counseling.
  • Identify supportive community resources to assist the individuals in the program.
  • Provide recovery readiness services in groups and individual counseling.
  • Conduct building tours.
  • Explain available service, as well as guest rights and responsibilities.
  • Provide mentorship support to individuals in the program.
  • Outreach and engage individuals in program services.
  • Converse with shift going off duty for any pertinent information, i.e., appointments, overall guests’ behaviors, changes in medication, etc.
  • Document in Communication Log any pertinent information regarding guests.
  • Meet with assigned caseload as scheduled.
  • Document all sessions on progress notes.
  • Escort guests shopping for personal needs.
  • Supervise and, when necessary, complete housekeeping activities, such as mopping, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, making beds, etc. to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for respite guests and staff.
  • Participate in Community Meetings.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Thoroughly inspect assigned guests’ rooms for safety measures and report any damages or problems to shift supervisor.
  • Attend special on-site and off-site training, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Supervise kitchen activities (cooking, serving, clean-up) to ensure safety, health and cleanliness, as needed.
  • During a declared disaster, assume and adhere to assigned Job Action role(s) consistent with Disaster Preparedness Plan.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will:

  • be able to sit or stand as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • be able to walk, primarily on a level surface, for short periods throughout the day, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • be able to reach above shoulder heights, below the waist or lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Experience/Education/Skills/Abilities

Experience as a recipient of mental health services and a willingness to share personal practice experience, knowledge and first-hand insight to benefit program enrollees. Preference will be given to graduates of a core peer training program.
